$115-130K Base plus 15% Bonus

Scope
The Sun Auto Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the multi-state/multi-jurisdiction payroll in a growing organization. Coaches, manages, and mentors payroll staff and performs tasks related to integrated payroll processing. This includes managing and maintaining the payroll system, processing bi-weekly payroll in an accurate and compliant manner, and partnering closely with Benefits, Finance and Operations to ensure a smooth and error-free process.
Responsibilities
- Manage accurate and timely payroll processing for the entire company including hourly, salaried, and commissioned employees.
- Manage multi-state/multi-jurisdiction payroll processes to ensure compliance with all applicable federal/state/local tax laws as well as M&A contractual agreements.
- Maintain and manage payroll calendars, deadlines, and funding schedules.
- Manage year-end reporting including W-2s.
- Oversee payroll tax filings, remittances, and audits across jurisdictions.
- Monitor and interpret payroll-related legislative and regulatory changes, partner with HR and legal where necessary.
- Manage and optimize payroll system setup, integrations, and interfaces with HRIS, timekeeping, and accounting systems.
- Lead payroll audits and enforce internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and to prevent fraud.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to streamline payroll workflows and reporting.
- Respond to and resolve employee payroll inquiries and discrepancies, such as incorrect deductions or missed payments.
- Educate employees and managers on payroll policies, timelines, and best practices.
- Supervise and develop payroll team members, including analysts and administrators.
- Manage relationships with third-party payroll vendors.
- Produce regular and ad hoc payroll reports and analytics for Finance, HR, and senior leadership.
- Analyze payroll costs, trends, and anomalies to support forecasting and budgeting.
- Oversee garnishments, child support orders, and other wage assignments.
- Collaborate with HR and Benefits teams on payroll-related impacts of leaves of absence, benefit deductions, and terminations.
Skills/Qualifications
- 10+ years’ hands-on payroll experience, with a minimum of 5 years managing multi-state payroll.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll processes and relevant legal regulations
- Proficiency in processing payroll in common HCM systems. Paycom experience is beneficial.
- Expert-level proficiency with Excel
- High personal standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
- Ability to multitask assignments, projects, and daily responsibilities with accuracy and high level of comfort working with all levels of employees.
- Excellent mathematical skills and basic knowledge of GL accounting
- Ability to grow and develop a team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field strongly preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professional Certificate preferred.
